Work on my Marmee cardigan is progressing well, although I'm not thrilled to be knitting with the Paton's Merino Delux. It is very splitty and my knitting is not as even as usual. I'm not sure if that is because I'm knitting on bamboo circulars for the first time. I've finished the back and fronts and one sleeve. Not much more to go.
I've been looking for sewing patterns and working on what will be next in my knitting queue. I've ordered some Naomi Ito sewing pattern books from Amazon Japan and I'm hoping I can decipher them. If not I'll send pages to my sister in Japan for translation!
The materials are so lovely, there is a large range at Purl Soho and a small range at Duckcloth. I can't exactly tell what all the books are, so it's going to be a bit of a lucky dip, but this is the one that started it all.
I've also ordered this kit, as I'm desperate for a warm winter hat, as well as a scarf, some mittens and a vest for Michael.

What a week!
Two new finished objects!
First of all I've finished my Laurie/Hannah from Louisa Harding's Summer Classics! I love it! It has worked out perfectly and in the cold, wet weather in Melbourne at the moment, it's fabulous!

The yarn is Filatura Di Crosa Zara, shade 1757. I've already machine washed it and, as usual, it has come out beautifully soft and cosy.
Then in two evenings I knitted Michael's second Piper Hat from Jo Sharps Contemporary Knitting 1. Despite the usual construction problems from a rather poorly written pattern, it has come out exactly like the first...way too big for my head, but perfect for Michael's noggin!

The yarn is Jo Sharp Classic DK , shade Nasturtium 343. Again it has been washed and blocked ready for him to wear. So now I can put the other one in the wash!
I've cast on for my Marmee cardigan, again from Louisa Harding's Summer Classics in Patons Merino Deluxe DK on a circular bamboo needle as yet again I broke my casein needles ( I got through about one pair every two projects). I'm a loose knitter, I don't know what I do! It is progressing well and the fabric feels lovely. Leonie at Wool Baa has already knitted a project in this yarn and has started another.

..and sews...
...well sort of...
With much trepidation, I've been talked into sewing with some lovely material I bought with Miss Katie at Astratex in Richmond. Confronted with the pattern and the material, I got cold feet and I've ordered both Wendy Mullin's books from Amazon and now I'm waiting for them to arrive before I start cutting out the fabric. I might change my mind and make something from her book rather than the beautiful, but I've discovered much harder than it looks, Issey Miyake Vogue pattern I bought. Here's the material and the pattern, of course in my new favourite colour, purple!

The red/black mesh was to make the contrast panels and the back, but I think I might wait to see about making a Sew U top and skirt with the material...I've been getting my inspiration from the flickr built by us pool, so now I'll just have to sit and wait!
Work on my Laurie jumper was progressing well with one sleeve finished and sewn in until last night when I knitted most of the second sleeve before realising I'd forgotten the decreases before the underarm...oh well, at least I don't have to re-do the cuff! Michael is impatient for his second Piper hat, so I'll be working on that next.

Laurie, no sorry, Hannah...
I've been knitting away solidly and I finished the Hannah neckline on my Laurie jumper this morning. I'm really happy with the result when I tried on the body today. It is short, but it should be OK. I knitted the neck with 2.75mm needles, my usual size down from the recommended needle to get the correct gauge. I'm not sure how I'll face the lace on the bottom of the sleeves, so maybe I can knit Michael's Piper had instead for a bit of a break?

Yes, I do...
I knit a lot, many things I knit I give away as presents, but some of the finished garments I keep...here are a few that I've knitted over the past few years. Ms Anouk above is modelling her sweater from Suss Cousins Hollywood Knits Style.
First is Michael's jumper knitted for his birthday two years ago, the yarn is Zara and the pattern is Ramona from Rowan Magazine 39 without all the decoration and with a rib and roll collar.

This is another old favourite knitted again in Zara. This is my Sex in the City jacket, I kind of copied it from one Carrie was wearing with a vintage dress. I made the pattern up from Amanda Griffith's one thousand sweaters with the detail pattern from the Lion Brand website.

Here is my new favourite yarn, Naturally ME merino and cashmere, in my new favourite colour, purple. This is the shrug Glint from Kim Hargreaves' new book Nectar. As I used a DK yarn instead of Worsted I adapted the guage to make it work. It's quite tight on me, but that's how I wanted it, more like a regency jacket (a la Jane Austen).

And then there is the wrap from Louisa Harding's Dauphine, Rose. As I can't wear anything scratchy, I've knitted it in Colinette Giotto in the shade Ischia 131 with Louisa Harding's Glisten and Kimono Ribbon for the flowers. I only knitted half the number of flowers as I didn't want them around my neck. The buttons come from Button Mania in Melbourne. I didn't worry too much about the guage and two skeins of the Colinette gave me a wrap of about two metres long.

And now I'm working on Laurie from Louisa Harding's Summer Classics, again in Zara. I'm a loose knitter and I had to go down to 3.25mm needles for the lace as my first go was really sloppy. The pattern calls for a cotton mix which wouldn't have as much give as pure wool and I'm happy with the back I've completed. The knit 3 togethers are a pain, especially as I use bendy timber grain needles!

Stash
Oh, yes what a stash...
First of all some yarn I'd be happy to sell...two balls of Jaeger Aqua

...and four balls of RYC Bamboo soft, no they haven't been used, they're just their usual tatty selves...

...and finally two balls of Blue Sky Alpaca's Brushed Suri which makes me sneeze...

Let me know if you're interested in any of these and I'll quote you a price including postage from Melbourne Australia. We don't smoke and although we've both a cat and a dog, I keep my yarns well out of their way and well wrapped up from dust.
And now for the yarn waiting to be knitted into something gorgeous (I hope). First up, Jaggerspun Zephyr and Habu Textiles Wool Stainless which I'm going to make into a version of Kim Hargreaves' Tender from Nectar. I'll use the Habu for the ruffle around the body and cuffs to give them some volume.

also going to be made into Tender (oh, I love that pattern) is gorgeous yarn, Filatura di Crosa Superior. The whole cardigan is only going to weigh 100g without buttons!

Oh, and another Piper hat for Michael from Jo Sharp's Contemporary Knitting 1

And finally some Karabella Boise for two Juliet scarves from Louisa Harding's knitting little luxuries. I've already knitted one for Roxanne in Louisa Harding's Angora Pure, but that made me sneeze also. I'll make the flower brooch for the green scarf from my left over Kimono Riboon.

I've got several other patterns in my Ravelry queue...Louise Harding's fitted sweater from Modern Classics, one of which I just knitted for Cathy's birthday in the Brushed Suri, which I'd like to knit in Joseph Galler's Pashmina 1 Forest, but the cost, the cost; and Kitty from Louisa Harding's Summer Classics, perhaps in Farmhouse Yarns Bonnie's Bamboo Ivory or Terracotta and a long sleeved Marmee from the same book in Paton's Merino Deluxe. That should be enough to be going along with...
